My name is Desiree

Are you feeling isolated from life because of an autoimmune condition? Do you find fatigue to be constant and overwhelming? Have you experienced pain or a flare-up that you can’t concentrate, study, work?

I had symptoms of Endometriosis for years and went through the standard process of treatment for my diagnosis. Within six months, I found laparoscopic surgery was a temporary fix and struggled with more symptoms. The two options offered were a drug to put menopause or a hysterectomy. The drug created a deeper depression, and I didn’t want a hysterectomy. I knew there was a better way.

My journey continued, frustrated, and confused, I started to experiment with whole foods. I was encouraged when the pain dwindled, and my energy increased. However, eventually, my health would plateau, leaving me with concentration problems, unusual sadness, and stagnant energy. This led me to seek the help of a professional to aid my journey. It took more testing and navigating but I eventually was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.

After being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, my purpose became clear. Despite my belief in self-care, my body’s condition told a different story. Enduring years of pain and fatigue, initially mistaken for allergies, I sought ways to improve my well-being. While advised to practice yoga, my lack of energy and painful joints made it a challenge. Hindered by muscle aches and joint pain, feeling weighed down and fatigued, I explored becoming a certified functional health coach. Unlike conventional medicine, functional medicine considers individual uniqueness, family history, lifestyle, and environment. Through this approach, I discovered lifestyle changes that could enhance my health.

Despite some improvement, underlying health issues persisted, leading to diagnoses of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Sjogren’s, and Lupus, necessitating further lifestyle modifications. With a growth mindset, I delved into mindset literature to understand its impact on health.

Reflecting on years of frustration and numerous doctor visits, I realized others might encounter similar challenges. Feeling scared, isolated, and uncertain at the time of diagnosis, my goal was to offer hope to others in similar situations. Pursuing an Autoimmune Paleo certification for self-help and to assist others, this journey led me to coach clients, launch my podcast “Stronger Than Autoimmune,” and open doors to new opportunities. Amidst my body’s autoimmune response, my pursuit of purpose began. From my body’s autoimmune struggle emerged a purposeful journey. I refused to be defeated by it; instead, I embraced it as an opportunity to evolve into the best version of myself, transforming adversity into growth and support for others.

I dealt with the symptoms of autoimmune disease for years. I learned how diet and lifestyle factors impact symptoms. These new lifestyle areas helped manage the fatigue, pain, and flares. I had to create better habits for myself and understand the frustration and overwhelm that goes along with starting a new routine.

My journey led me to become certified as a health coach with a focus on building better habits.
